Hidden Health Benefits of Coffee

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages worldwide, making caffeine the most widely consumed psychoactive substance on the planet.

For years, coffee was criticized as a potential threat to cardiovascular health. However, recent, more comprehensive scientific studies have begun to challenge this perception.

This is a health drink. The evidence is really clear: It can reduce heart attacks by 25%
— Tim Spector, British epidemiologist & Medical Dr.

Experts initially believed caffeine could harm the cardiovascular system by increasing heart rate and blood pressure. However, recent studies, as explained by Tim, suggest coffee reduces the risk of various heart conditions. The health benefits likely stem from coffee's complex chemical makeup, which includes thousands of compounds.

Coffee is high in fiber...about 1.5 grams per cup - more than a glass of orange juice. Three cups provide around one-quarter of your daily fiber intake

In the Western world, many are fiber-deprived. So, coffee’s fiber content helps explain some of its benefits. However, coffee also contains polyphenols, which support your git microbiome and help reduce blood sugar and blood pressure.

Coffee and your gut microbiome

Lawsonibacter, a bacterium found in coffee, is common in nature and resides in the guts of nearly all adults in coffee-drinking regions. Its population significantly increases in those who regularly consume coffee.

As Lawsonibacter feeds on coffee, it produces compounds like quinic acid, which helps lower blood pressure. Quinic acid also stimulates insulin release, reducing blood sugar levels.

Many of us love coffee, but we may not be aware of its health benefits. If you thought coffee was just a caffeine kick, think again.
